The official “State News” station, Fox News, just put out a story about how President Trump and First Lady Melania showed up to a hospital where a wondered veteran was being cared for and made a complete fool of himself by ruining a Purple Heart ceremony.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Alvaro Barrientos is recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland after suffering a debilitating leg wound during combat in Afghanistan. When Trump caught word that this veteran was supposed to receive the Purple Heart, he supposedly said, “I wanted to do this myself.”

“Looking forward to seeing our bravest and greatest Americans!,” Trump tweeted just before visiting the military rehabilitation facility.

That's where Fox conveniently ended the report – conveniently, because he made an absolute ass of himself after that.

After the ceremony was performed, the orange buffoon reportedly told Sgt. 1st Class Barrientos, “Congratulations. Tremendous.”

For some background on what the Purple Heart is, and so that you can truly appreciate how ridiculous and disrespectful that was, let's look at what it was created to signify, per the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor:

Originally the Purple Heart was awarded for meritorious service. Being wounded was considered to be one type of merit. With the creation of the Legion of Merit in 1942, the award of the Purple Heart for meritorious service became unnecessary and was therefore discontinued. The Purple Heart, per regulation is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917 has been wounded, killed, or has died after being wounded.

It's a symbol of thanks from our government to those who have gone above and beyond what any of us would want to do, not some sort of award you're bestowing on him. It's honoring the person who made that incredible sacrifice.

You shouldn't have said “congratulations,” you idiot, you should be thanking this man profusely.

Luckily, Twitter didn't let him get off lightly:
